The Camp

“Camps in any other state might be called a lake house or a cottage, but in Maine, the term “camp” has come to mean a place owned for the purpose of getting away from the world for a moment as a summer or simply a weekend vacation spot.”…..Bangor Daily News August 4, 2017

This is precisely how many permanent year-round homes begin.

Originally a cabin was constructed on the property, where, for generations, families gathered on weekends, school vacations,or for the entire summer.

And, yes, this fabulous house sits adjacent to the lot where it all began for the owners/designers/builders, Richard and his wife Nancy.

In 1955 Richard’s parents began taking him to The Camp… the family cabin in the woods in Lincoln, Maine, previously owned by his grandparents.

In 1984 Richard relocated to Maine permanently and has never regretted it. He and Nancy remodeled and lived in the family cottage while designing and building the fabulous 2,880 sq ft house.

This camp is where Richard’s and Nancy’s children would continue to spend summers and holidays throughout the years. Beginning in 2002 the design became a reality .

In 2003 construction began of the 2,880 sq ft.

NOTE: in 1934 Richard’s great-grandfather leased the family property for $5 per year.
An individual from Boston owned over 600,000 acres surrounding Caribou Pond, Egg Pond and Long Pond.

It’s the beauty within us that makes it possible for us to recognize the beauty around us. The question is not what you look at but what you see.Henry David Thoreau
